What now makes patience possible, pain bearable, and the future foreseeable? What do we do now when we long for a relationship with – mystery? Today’s sermon asks the question who/what is God?

Many of us grew up learning to equate faith with doctrine. One memorizes the doctrine, espouses the doctrine, lives the doctrine and in so doing becomes a person of faith. Often the word faith troubles us because it seems linked to narrow-minded belief systems, lack of intelligent examination, or pain at having our questions silenced. This sermon explores the concept of faith as an inner quality that unfolds as we learn to trust our own deepest experience and frees us to claim the right to question.

According to the Anxiety Disorders Association there are as many as 11.5 million people suffering from a “fear of something.”   This sermon will examine the many challenges of living with a phobia (your own or anothers) and seek to show what the effect of attentive compassion might be on the spirit of the sufferer.

Guest Speaker, Dave Sykes  – Adversity, whether generated by everyday challenges or serious loss, is part of life. However, have you ever wondered why for some, what may be an overwhelming stressor that leads to “crisis”, could be a “tiny bump in the road” for someone else? How do some people seem to have a limitless supply of inner strength and others have so little? Let’s explore the significance of resilience, plus how we can learn to strengthen it in ourselves and loved ones.
