The Ministerial Search Committee wants all members and friends to participate in 2 important events this month:

Cottage Meetings – These will be discussions about our views for our next settled minister and the ministerial search. We need to hear your ideas! Please join us for one of the following meeting dates: Oct. 18 (Sunday noon); Oct. 19 (Monday evening); Oct. 27 (Tuesday evening) or Oct. 28 (Wednesday evening). Beyond Categorial Thinking Workshop – Sunday, October 25, 12:00 p.m. This workshop is intended to promote inclusive thinking in the ministerial search process. It will be conducted by a UUA representative. Lunch and child care will be provided. Please  email Kari Tyler (karity32@yahoo.com) to sign up.

October 24, 2015:

10am Sound-system workshop (Dining Room). If you use the Parish House sound system, this workshop will be very beneficial.

12:00pm – “Halloween?” (Auditorium)an original children’s musical will be presented as a lunch theatre for young children and their families in our auditorium.  (Costumes encouraged) This is a short musical catered to young children, and it is not scary, with a theme about bullying. There are no tickets, reservations only at 508-984-1253.  $10 ages 12-adult, $5 ages 3-11.

7:30pm, Sanctuary – Music of the Macabre…and more! A presentation of the Music Committee to benefit the church. Volunteers needed for decorating and refreshments. Suggested donation $10.00 for this adult-appropriate event. Please speak with Joanna Weeks for more information or to volunteer your services.

Closer than Ever – a musical review in the Parish House Auditorium, produced/directed/music directed by Bonnie Jeanne Brault, and featuring performances by Heather Bodnar, Bonnie-Jeanne Brault, David Jones, Kelly Morrell and Tyler Rowe with guest appearance by Berklee School of Music bassist Benjamin Young . 2 performances on 11/6 and 11/7 at 7pm. RESERVATIONS ONLY @ 508-984-1253 beginning SEPT. 1. $15 person, $13 seniors. There will be 80 seats for each performance, and the seats go very quickly! We are a green congregation and do not use tickets; reservation fees only. Please arrive by 6:45 pm for your reserved seats. Confirmation on facebook does not constitute a reservation.

October 11th – “Wrestling with God”

Sunday, October 11th, we welcome Sam Teitel, a Unitarian Universalist poet, educator, and punk rocker. He is currently studying at Andover Newton Theological School with a focus on interfaith leadership. After his projected graduation from Andover Newton Theological School in May of 2016 he plans to pursue ordination as a Unitarian Universalist minister. He is currently serving as the ministerial intern at First Church in Boston. He believes in creating a worship environment that is lively, joyful, and thought-provoking.

His sermon is based on a famous story in the book of Genesis about Jacob having a literal wrestling match with God. As Unitarian Universalists it can seem like we as a spiritual community are wrestling with the idea of God all the time, or else wrestling with each other over the idea of God. In this service we will be exploring what it means to wrestle God, both on a physical an on a spiritual level.

Escalating Inequality Study Group

Sunday evening, October 4^th, from 6:30-8:00  in Harrop Center : Escalating Inequality Study Group- This will be the kick-off meeting of the Social Justice Committee’s 5-session study focused on “Economic Inequality: Roots and Realities”. As a follow-up to recent initiatives to disseminate accurate information related to the complicated area of corporate personhood and the control of money in elections, the study group will use the book “Divided: The perils of our Growing Inequality” as a base. The book will be available for those interested at a reduced price of $9.00 at coffee hour. Please consider joining the Study Group to gain a better understanding of this issue of great importance to our democracy as we know it.

15th Annual John Manjiro Festival

Sunday October 4, 2015 we will be welcoming visitors attending the 15th John Manjiro Festival. We are expecting 40 guests from Japan to attend our services. The Women’s Alliance will be hosting a special reception for our guests. Please assist if you are able. We are in need of people for ushering, food preparation, serving and kitchen clean up. International Peace Day Event

Monday, September 21^st 2015 is International Peace Day – In observance of this world wide U.N. event the Women’s Alliance is celebrating a Peaceful Be-In  at our  Peace Pole  on the corner of Center and William St. 10am – to mid-afternoon. Sunday, September 13th – “A Place of One’s Own”

Welcome back! This Sunday is our Intergenerational Ingathering. You are invited to bring any object of personal or spiritual significance from your home or your travels to place upon our altar. Perhaps you have collected sea glass or shells or read an inspiring book or took a photograph of a place or person you visited. You may of course bring a small amount of water to place in our communal bowl. Today’s message will examine the sacred in the ordinary and ask the question from where do you receive fragments of holiness, glimpses of eternity, brief moments of insight and connection?
