Light refreshments and Childcare Provided

We ask all members to attend, particularly so that we will have a quorum for voting purposes. Two meetings a year are required by our Bylaws–a semi-annual and an annual meeting. We will conduct the business of the Society, affirm new committee members, vote to elect new members for our church board, and vote to approve our budget for next year.  We cannot vote upon anything unless we have a quorum.

photo of jordinn-nelson-longDear Members and Friends,

The Ministerial Search Committee (MSC) is thrilled to introduce you to our candidate for settled ministry, Jordinn Nelson Long!

Jordinn possesses the skills and talents our congregation requested, as reflected in the survey and cottage meeting results. Jordinn’s sermons are extraordinarily well written, thought provoking and inspirational. A highly effective communicator, Jordinn is also compassionate and collaborative; she embodies shared ministry. Her listening skills are well suited to ministry not only from a pastoral perspective, but also with respect to developing an understanding of who we are as a congregation and the direction in which we wish to move.   She is an energetic person with wonderful new ideas and suggestions that are personalized for our needs.   Her energy is infectious and we expect it will catalyze the full potential of our congregation.

We sought a minister who would be innovative and help us increase and retain our membership. In addition to a warm, understanding and knowledgeable ministerial presence in person, Jordinn leads an engaging online ministry. This is a new, creative opportunity for the Unitarian Universalist Society of Fairhaven.

Highly organized, Jordinn is also detail-oriented, and is already among the young leaders in our movement.

The tangible evidence told us that Jordinn was the correct person for the UUSF, but it is also the unanimous feeling of the search committee that this is the right match for our congregation. At the beginning of this process, Rev. Bob told us that we could trust that we would know when the fit was right. We certainly have that feeling, and we are very excited to be able to introduce our first choice candidate to you.

You will have the chance to meet Jordinn soon, during Candidating Week, which will be held from May 8 through May 15th. Jordinn will preach on both Sundays, meet with groups, committees, and staff members, and hold office hours along with evening events and joining us for our Saturday beach clean-up. For now, please get to know her online. Her letter to you, and more information about her and her family, can be found on her ministerial website at www.JNelsonLong.com.

Please plan to join us in welcoming Jordinn and her family to Fairhaven next month. Let’s celebrate!

Sincerely,

Your Ministerial Search Committee

Take advantage of the Fairhaven Solar Farm!

Renters, low-income consumers, and homes without enough sun are effectively locked out of the market for rooftop solar panels. The Solstice Initiative (www.solsticeinitiative.org), a Boston-based not-for-profit organization, is changing that. If you are interested in reducing your energy bill and supporting solar power, find out how you can take advantage of the solar farm recently built right here in Fairhaven. Isaac Maze-Rothstein from the Solstice Initiative will be available to talk with interested members of the congregation TODAY at 12 noon in the Parish House auditorium. Sponsored by the UUSF Social Justice Committee.
