The New England Peace Pagoda (www.newenglandpeacepagoda.org), an initiative of the Nipponzan Myohoji Buddhist Order, has embarked on in its 15th annual Walk for a New Spring, and is walking for peace through Fairhaven on their way to Washington, DC. The 8-week Walk began on March 4, 20l6 at the Peace Pagoda in Leverett, Massachusetts. The call of this walk is for “Shared Security – to End War,” an effort to nurture the belief that we can truly end war and start to shift the direction of our national thinking and policies in a different direction.
UUSF will be hosting the walkers on Friday, March 25 with a potluck dinner from 6:00-7:00 PM in the Harrop Center, followed by a discussion from 7:00-8:00 in the same location. Members of the congregation have generously volunteered to provide sleeping arrangements for the 8-12 walkers. We will also provide breakfast before the walkers depart at 8:30 AM Saturday morning.
Information on the Walk for a New Spring is available today in the Parish House during Hospitality Hour. If you are interested in bringing a contribution to the potluck, please see Larry DeSalvatore or Rev. Bob after Sunday service. Sponsored by the UUSF Social Justice Committee.

As a follow-up to his presentation of a timeline titled “A Brief History of Earth”, Jack Dean, of the Men’s Fellowship, is planning to host a 5-week on-line course on “Big History”. Conceived by Australian professor of history David Christian, the “Big History Project” (BHP) is free and available on the internet. Composed of a number of videos and brief narratives, there are a total of 5 chapters of approximately 1-hour each. The course examines the latest scientific thinking from the formation of the Universe to present day. The session format will include an approximate 30-minute discussion of the material presented.
The course sessions will meet weekly for 1-1/2 hours following Coffee Hour on Sundays in the church office starting February 28th. The last session will be April 3rd (no session on Easter Sunday). The course is free and is open to all having an interest in our origins and how it relates to our world view and UU understanding of our place in the cosmos. Please sign up during Coffee Hour and/or let Jack know of your interest or any questions you may have for planning purposes.
It’s that time of year to start thinking about your pledge of support to all that the Unitarian Universalist Society of Fairhaven does for you, and for the larger community. This is unfortunately an all too frequent crime and AARP is committed to helping everyone learn to recognize the signs of a potential scam, fraud or identity theft incident, and hopefully prevent it. This event is sponsored by our Denominational Affairs Committee. Hope to see you on Sunday, 1/31/16, at 12:00pm in the Auditorium, for this informative presentation. Please invite as many people you know who may be interested. Thanks!
January 24 – 9:00 am A meeting of the “Program Council” will be held in the Parish House auditorium. Representatives from each and every official committee and group should attend. Results of this meeting go to the Board of Governors for their consideration.
